Mission: History

Why Mission: History? It is an attempt to help members of the Naval Order of the United States, starting with the San Francisco chapter, fulfill their obligations as Companions of the Order. When established in 1890, the Order stated as its mission to preserve and promote Sea Service history. Mission: History believes that by providing reminders of notable moments in the rich history of naval conflict it can encourage and assist the Order in achieving that objective. Each monthly issue of Mission: History focuses on specific naval events and related military action which took place in the past during that month.

The information that appears in Mission: History articles is drawn almost entirely from published sources. While the stories are freshly written, because of the informality of the publication, footnotes are not used and, as a result, credit is often not given where it should be. It is hoped that the reader sees the material as an apéritif, and that it whets his appetite for heartier fare.

Mission: History is no longer published.  Ric Teague, its author, passed away from cancer on March 3, 2002. To read his obituary, click the following link - In Memoriam
